Temple Of Inscriptions
The artwork that I chose is actually one of the temples that was built by the Maya Indians in prehistoric times. I feel that this is as much of artwork as a painting on canvas. The architecture that I chose is, The Temple Of Inscriptions. It is called the temple of Inscriptions because an 1948 an archeologist found a passage way that had the largest amount of inscriptions of the Maya. The Temple is made of stone and stands tall in the central plaza of Palenque. I chose this because not only is it a beautiful structure, but it has managed to still be in tact after centuries of abuse from the weather. In the pictures you will see a temple on top of a pyramid structure with a tall staircase leading to the temple.
This temple is absolutely beautiful and it has history with it that no one of this time will ever really understand. Just looking at the picture draws a feeling of wonder, I ask myself, "How did they do it"? In the time that this plaza was built, there were no tools it was built by human hands who worked so hard to make a sight such as this. One thing that I would like to know, is what drew these people to build such a huge plaza that sits high above the earth for everyone to see. The more that I learn about this culture, the more it amazes me on how advanced these people were and where did they learn it from.
